ALLAHABAD: A two-day national seminar on 'Swami Vivekananda: legacy and legend' was organised by the Institute of Gandhian Thought and Peace Studies ( IGTPS) and the UGC-SAP, department of Political Science, Allahabad University, on Wednesday. The seminar marked the 150th birth anniversary of the legendary figure, Swami Vivekananda. Seminar was organized at the seminar hall of Gandhi Bhawan of AU.
In his special address, the guest of honour, Dr TGK Murty, the scientific adviser to ARCI, Hyderabad, department of Science and Technology, government of India and former outstanding Scientist of Indian Space Research Organization, Bangalore, made a comparison between Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekananda and commented that while Gandhi practiced truth, Vivekananda realised it. Unlike other religious leaders, Vivekananda synthesises between science and spiritualism, he added.
The chief guest, Vice-Chancellor, AU, Prof A K Singh, acclaimed Swami Vivekananda as the greatest spiritual leader of modern world. Singh asked all to remember the vision of Vivekananda, whose teachings encompass whole of humanity and envisioned importance of science in achieving mental development.
In his keynote address, head, department of History and Culture, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, Prof Amiya Prosad Sen commented that Swami Vivekananda brought the message of peace, harmony and brotherhood. Sen illustrated the relevance of Vivekananda and commented that his ideas on Gita or Karmoyoga help human beings in restoration of mankind irrespective of class, creed, caste and religion.
Former V-C, Vardhaman Mahaveer Open University, Kota, Rajasthan, Prof Naresh Dadhich said that we can call Vivekananda as father of all national leaders, in awakening nationalistic feelings and making people aware about greatness of their own nation.
